Before there was, Neil Armstrong and his, “That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”, there was another astronaut we believe needs to be commended just as much – John Glenn.
Throughout his life, John Hershel Glenn Jr. (18 July, 1921 - 8 December, 2016), loved, and served his country. Brave and heroic, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corp where he fought in World War II, the Chinese Civil War, and the Korean War. All of which led to him receive numerous Militery Distinctions and awards. A few years later, Glenn’s space career began at NASA where he was specially picked to join six other astronauts to enter space in the Mercury Seven. Their aim was one of importance as they had to judge the functionality of humans in space, seeing if it's even a possibility.
In 1962, there was another very important mission that Glenn completed. It was a feat we're celebrating at Casino GrandBay as it put the USA on the map, and in the space race. On 20 February, on the Friendship 7 shuttle, Glenn blasted off from Cape Canaveral in Florida and entered the never-ending galaxy, and while he was there he made three earth orbits in only 4 hours and 56 minutes. Such a success story, especially as he was the very first American to do this is!
